Providence Hall is fully accredited!

We are pleased to announce that Providence Hall has just received full accreditation by the Northwest Accreditation Commission!

Charter Schools are subject to the same accreditation review as other public schools.  A new charter school applies for provisional accreditation as part of their charter.  Providence Hall has had provisional accreditation from the NAC since we opened as a school.   Most schools apply for full accreditation in their 4th year, but we decided to pursue accreditation now, in our 3rd year, believing our school to be ready for that analysis.

Our school has spent the past couple of months preparing for this review with everyone from Principal Kathy Watson and Director Jodi Lusty to parents, students and of course our teachers documenting our processes, analysis and planning that goes into the education at Providence Hall.   This week, the Northwest Accreditation Commission sent an Accreditation Committee to go through this analysis and observe the implementation of our efforts in our school.  Committee members observed our teachers teaching and spoke with the board, administration, teachers, students and parents to assess how well we were implementing our plans.  The Committee had the authority to then grant us a level of accreditation ranging from a one year term with a mandatory formal re-evaluation to a six year term with an informal evaluation.  After their review of our school the Accreditation Committee assigned to our school approved us for the highest level of accreditation, a six year term with an informal visit.  While the team had some suggestions for us in various areas they commended us for having a “great school” and re-enforced that we are on track for future success as well.

We are appreciative of all the work done by everyone at our school to prepare for this accreditation and to make Providence Hall the great school that it is!

Spring Carnival Volunteers

We are having our Spring Carnival on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 5:30 pm. The Carnival is a lot of fun, but it is our Fabulous Volunteers that make it successful. Carrie Higbee, the PHAST Fundraising Director for the school, and Kari Hardy, the Spring Carnival Commissioner, have set up a Spring Carnival online sign up. If you are available please take a moment and sign up for a shift that works for you.

Wednesday, May 4, 2011: Meet the Principal Night!

Tomorrow night, Wednesday May 4, 2011, from 6:00pm-7:00pm is Meet the Principal Night!  The open house will be held at Providence Hall Elementary School.  The following items will be addressed:

·         Principal Freeland and others from the Faculty, Administration and Board there to meet the new and prospective Jr. High students
·         We will be announcing the new dress code for the Jr. High!
·         We will be having snacks – specifically food cooked in our cafeteria for the first time.  We are going to begin doing trial runs for our school lunch program using our new Chef before the end of the year so we can ensure we will have a full school lunch program for both schools next year.  This will be our first trial run – come see how we do.
·         We will have parent sign-ups for various Parent Teacher committees for the Junior High, including the social committee and the move-in committee.  Remember that hours donated to the Jr. High also count towards your total goal for the school.
·         You will be able to obtain more information on class offerings and schedules and give us your input while you are here.

We look forward to seeing all who can join us then!
