New Volunteer Category: Babysitting Sharing

Last spring PHAST conducted a volunteer survey to find out how we could help our parents volunteer more and fulfill their volunteer commitment of 4 hours per month. After looking at the results, we saw the overwhelming reason why people didn't volunteer more, or at all, was because they have small children at home and no one to babysit.

To help address this, we are very excited to announce we have added a new volunteer category to HelpCounter: Babysitting Sharing. You can now get volunteer credit for babysitting the preschool-age children of another Providence Hall parent while they are at the school volunteering, and vice-versa. Now it’s even easier to be involved and we look forward to seeing more people at the school. Thanks for all you do to make Providence Hall a great place for our kids!

Remember to log your hours on HelpCounter here.

Fall Festival 2010

We want to shout out a huge Thanks! to everyone who came out to enjoy our Fall Festival this year! We gave out over 700 wristbands and had over 70 volunteers who helped make the night fun for everyone—What an incredible turnout! The favorite game of the festival? The Toilet Paper Toss (into a toilet, of course!) Thanks so much for supporting our school community!

Fall Book Fair

Our Fall Book Fair is coming up Thursday, Nov 4, 2-8 p.m., and Friday, Nov 5, 1-6 p.m. Book fairs are a great way to add books to your home library and earn free books for our classrooms and library! Be sure to use your $5 coupon from our No-Fuss Fundraiser. If you haven't had a chance to participate in the fundraiser, you can make your donation at the book fair and get your coupon.

You can click here to sign up to help at the book fair.

Note: Scholastic has upgraded their cash register to a computerized system. If you'd like to help at the book fair and need to be trained on the new system, please go to the school during the book fair set-up on Friday, 10/29, from 1-3 p.m., and someone will show you how it works.

A few things needed for the Fall Festival

‎1 week and 2 days until our Fall Festival! Plans are well underway, but we still need a few things: Does anyone have 3-5 darts we can borrow for our balloon-dart game, and 4-6 hoops or rings (smaller than hula hoops) we can throw over pumpkins? Please email Sheree Harper at shereebee@hotmail.com. Thanks so much!

Fall Festival Sign-Up Information

Parents and Teachers,

The Fall Festival is quickly approaching!  We need more volunteers to help make the night possible for everyone to enjoy!! Thanks to the no-fuss fundraising there is no charge for this fun night. Just come with your family and have fun! We will be selling BBQ hot dog meals for $2.  The meal includes: hot dog, chips, and a drink.

Be sure to note that we have moved the date of the Fall Festival to
Friday October 22nd from 5:30-7:30pm.
Below is a link for a Google Doc.  Please take a look and sign up to help where you can.

**Teenagers and older siblings can also help with games and concessions!**

There are many ways in which you can volunteer for this activity. Below is an outline of the Google Doc to give you an idea of what volunteering opportunities are available.

The school will be divided into 5 sections as outlined below:
*Harvest Carnival located on the 2nd and 3rd grade side.  It will have 5 games and face painting. (these games are regular carnival types)
*Spooky Carnival located on the K and 1st grade side.  It will have 5 games and a “G” rated spooky walk. (these games all have a Halloween theme to them)
*GYM-Food, cookie decorating, tire throw, picture taking corner, carved pumpkin display, consessions.
*Spook Alley will be on the stage.  This is our “PG” rated spooky walk.
*Upstairs- donut on a string, slim, mini-frisbee golf, speed cup stacking

Each section will need to have the following:
*Lead volunteer – You will help direct your assigned section.
  *Set up
  *1st hour volunteer
  *2nd hour volunteer

The following 3 activities also need someone in charge of each of them.
1.       “G” rated spooky walk
2.       Donut on a string upstairs
3.       Picture taking corner in the gym

Take a look at the Google Doc and sign up for what you can do.  If you can be a Lead let me know asap so I can give you more details and we can talk about what still needs to be done before the Fall Festival night.

If you own a business or know of a business that would like to donate to and/or sponsor part of this activity, please call or email me and I can give you more information.

Thanks again for your willingness to help with this fun activity!!  If you have any questions you can call or email me.
