Providence Hall is delighted to announce the selection of Jim Freeland as Principal of Providence Hall Junior High!
Mr. Freeland is currently the Athletic Director at Herriman High school and will begin work at Providence Hall after finishing the remaining school year there. Mr. Freeland has earned a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from California State University and a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education from Brigham Young University. He has an impressive history in education, previously serving as the Principal of a comprehensive K-8 public school in Durbin, California, as the Asst. Principal at two different California Distinguished Schools, and as a Board Member for the California League of Middle Schools.
Mr. Freeland’s education experience spans every grade from K-12, although he admits to being partial to the middle years grades. He lives the Providence Hall attitude of being a life-long learner and is passionate about helping students develop that same love of learning by helping them take responsibility for their own education. As Mr. Freeland says, “Great things will happen when middle school students can be a part of a school with rigor, educational relevance and respectful relationships.”
A native Texan, Mr. Freeland was raised by two educators in a home filled with sports, art and culture. During High School his family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he attended Amador Valley High School and participated in Constitutional Debate and Sports. His “We The People” debate team earned a Top 10 finish in State in the inaugural year of the program. He also earned All-American honors in Football and Track while earning an athletic scholarship to BYU where he played college football.
Mr. Freeland is married to the former Debbie Dimond of Riverton, UT and together they are the proud parents of 5 children: Sierra (12), Blake (9), Marin (7), Addison (4) and Taylor (18 mo.)
We look forward to having all our Jr. High students and parents come meet Mr. Freeland on May 4th when we will be hosting an open house at the Elementary. There you will be able to meet Mr. Freeland and learn more about his plans for the Junior High. You will also have the chance to meet some of our new Jr. High teachers, see updates on the school construction and learn more about the IB program that will be taught. We hope you can all join us then to welcome Mr. Freeland to our Providence Hall community!
