Math Tournament Congratulations

Providence Hall’s Math Team, competing against over 35 other schools,took 2nd place overall at the Jordan District Math Competition! The team was led by Mrs. Jenny Hunter and was made up of 4th – 6th graders. Nephi Seo received special distinction taking 3rd place in the individual category. We are very proud of our students and congratulate them on their work and achievement!

April 8, 2011



Daybreak Elementary team 4 (with Riley Ross, Braden Blackburn, Tyler Davis, Jordan Harbaugh and Jefferson Harbaugh as team members), placed first out of 37 teams at the 1st Annual Math Tournament for the Jordan School District Area at Daybreak Elementary on Thursday, April 7, 2011. Placing second was Providence Hall Team 1 (with Jackson Ruff, Nephi Seo, Senah Park, Peyton Ashby, and Trevon Greenwood) and third was North Star Academy team 2 (with Taylor Rowser, Jared Wilson, Katharine VanWagoner, Kyndra Sorensen, and Liesje Wright). 185 students in grades 4 -6 each competed face-to-face for 4½ hours on 5-member teams.



Sponsored by Daybreak Elementary, the students had to solve 20 to 22 clever, engaging, and challenging problems on a variety of mathematical topics. This produced an exciting atmosphere for student and teacher alike.



Nathan Hansen of Jordan Ridge Elementary was the outstanding individual for the day, taking first place in an exhilarating playoff.  Placing second was Jonathan Dealba of Jordan Ridge Elementary, Nephi Seo of Providence Hall was third.  Bryant McArthur of Jordan Ridge was the next highest 6th grader, and Taylor Rowser of North Star Academy was the top fifth grader with Jefferson Harbaugh of Daybreak Elementary as the high scoring 4th grader.
