Junior High Dress Code Information - Please Read!

Junior High Dress Code

We have been patient with our new students as they have been learning the dress code at the Junior High.  However, we are now starting to see some pretty obvious violations of dress code on a far too regular basis.  Beginning next week will be inviting students who come to school out of dress code a choice of either coming up to the front office to call a parent to bring them dress code items, or select from dress code compliant items we will have available in the front office.  (The second option will not include particularly attractive or stylish choices.)

There seem to be some consistent areas of non-compliance that we would like to clarify now:

·         Skirts or shorts need to be no more than 2 inches above the knee…even with tights or leggings underneath
·         We are allowing girls to wear solid colored cardigans (in dress code colors) over solid colored tank tops (also in dress code colors).  We are not allowing stripes or patterns on either the cardigan or tank tops however.  Also, we will be monitoring this combination for modesty as well.
·         We are getting a lot of girl’s skirts in lace and pretty elaborate patterns that are also not compliant.
·         The boys also need to pay attention to ensure they wear dress code colored shirts (turquoise, light blue, purple, etc. don’t count)
·         We are also seeing boys wear gym shorts instead of dress code bottoms.  Those are not appropriate except for gym.
·         Lastly, in gym class, the t-shirts need to have sleeves.  Cut off sleeves or tank tops are not allowed either.

Please know that we appreciate the efforts of our students, and their parents, who are working to comply with the dress code.  Thank you.

New Junior High Procedure - please read!

If a parent brings something down for a student they may bring it to the office and leave it there.  Due to high volume of these drop offs we will no longer be interrupting class to call the students to inform them of the delivery.  It is up to the student to come down to the office and pick up needed items on their own.  We will, of course, inform students if there is an emergency or medical situation.  Thank you!

Letter regarding Junior High Move-in Help. Please read!

Dear Parents,

The Junior High is done and ready to move in!  We are very excited to get started and the dates of move in will be Wed the 17th – Sat the 20th.  Below is link to the sign up sheet.  We have 3 hour shifts, although you could sign up for more than one shift.  We are in need of trucks and/or trailers, hand trucks or dollies that can be used to make things go quicker.

While we can get into the build, children under the age of 18 are prohibited from entering the building until we get the final permits, so please don’t bring your children.  Also we have a lot of work to do in a short period of time so we ask that if you come to the school it’s to help and not just to look around, there will be time to do that after we have moved in.

Thanks for your help!  We are excited to get this new school started off right!

Thanks,

James Barker

Junior High Night! Tuesday, July 19th at 6pm

We are going to be holding our next Junior High night this coming Tuesday at 6 pm.  This will be held in the Elementary Library, with break outs in the collaboration areas.   This night will be an opportunity to:

·         Meet our Junior High Director of Academics – Marianne “Peaches” Sansom.   We are thrilled to announce that Peaches has arrived!   She and her husband have now moved to Utah from her IB school in Atlanta to help us create the best IB Middle Years Program possible for the students of Herriman.  Peaches has over 30 years of teaching experience, has helped start other IB schools and is actually a trainer and program evaluator for the International Baccalaureate Program.   We are very lucky to have a teacher of her caliber leading our academic program!  This will be your chance to hear her speak about how this program will be implemented in the school and what it will mean to  your students.
·         Learn more about our other offerings such as:
o   Sports programs,
o   Friday class offerings,
o   Volunteer opportunities,
o   The new Junior High Facilities
o    Student summer activities and socials
·         Ask any questions you have of our Administration

We know that many families are vacationing this time of year so we will put any information we distribute at this event available on the website.  We will also be having additional Parent Nights in upcoming weeks.

Thank you for your ongoing support!
